Paper-I contains:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning – 50 questions / 50 marks

  • General Awareness – 50 questions / 50 marks

  • Engineering subject – 100 questions / 100 marks

Thus, Paper-I contains 200 questions for 200 marks and has a duration of 2 hours. Candidates eligible for the specified scribe facilities receive 2 hours 40 minutes.

The engineering subject depends upon the post and qualification, such as Civil & Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science & Information Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Physics or Telecommunication.

Paper-II

Paper-II is a Computer-Based Examination consisting of the relevant engineering/technical subject.

Paper-II contains 100 questions carrying 300 marks and has a duration of 2 hours. Candidates eligible for the applicable scribe facilities receive 2 hours 40 minutes.

Negative Marking

There is negative marking in both papers:

  • Paper-I: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer

  • Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer

Both papers contain objective-type multiple-choice questions and are conducted in Hindi and English.

SSC JE Selection Process 2026

The selection process is based primarily on performance in Paper-I and Paper-II.

Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II based on their normalized Paper-I marks and applicable minimum qualifying requirements.

The minimum qualifying percentages are:

  • UR: 30%

  • OBC/EWS: 25%

  • All other categories: 20%

Final selection and allocation of Post/Organization/Office are based on Paper-II performance and the preferences submitted by candidates. Normalized Paper-II marks are used for determining final merit.

Candidates should therefore give careful consideration to their post and organization preferences.
